There are gardens that simply grow flowers and then there’s Maya’s garden.

From the moment the sun peeks over the morning fence, Maya’s garden giggles. The tulips open with a pop!, the daisies stretch their sleepy petals, and even the old oak gives a shiver, as if scratching its back against the clouds. It isn’t just special because it’s beautiful,  it’s alive in ways most people never see.

But Maya has always seen things others don’t.

She sees how the dandelions lean when she whispers secrets, how the earthworms twist in rhythm when she hums, and how the morning glories twirl faster when she laughs.

Her mother says she has a “wild imagination”, her dad says she’s got “fairy eyes.” Maya isn’t sure what that means exactly… until the morning she meets Liri.
